Map a Network Drive

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • The path to the drive.
  • Connected to the VPN (if off campus).

Map a Network Drive Windows 8

  1. Press Ctrl + F to open the Search menu, and look up computer.
  2. Click Apps and then Computer.
  3. In the Computer Window click Map Network Drive at the top.
  4. If Map network drive is not at the top, press the arrow beside the question mark in the top-right corner
  5. In the Map Network Drive window
    • Pick an available drive letter

      Typical drive letters:
      Department:G
      AllShare:P
      Personal:H

    • Enter the path to the drive

      Typical drive paths:
      Department:\campusutddeptdrivesdeptsharename
      AllShare:\campus.ad.utdallas.eduutdallshare
      Student Personal:\olympus.utdallas.eduNetID
      Staff Personal:\campus.ad.utdallas.eduutduserNetID

    • Check Reconnect at logon.
    • VPN ONLY Check Connect using different credentials, then enter:
      • CampusNetID
      • Password

Map a Network Drive with Windows 7

  1. Click on Start, then right-click Computer and click on Map Network Drive.
  2. In the Map Network Drive window
    • Pick an available drive letter

      Typical drive letters:
      Department:G
      AllShare:P
      Personal:H

    • Enter the path to the drive

      Typical drive paths:
      Department:\campusutddeptdrivesdeptsharename
      AllShare:\campus.ad.utdallas.eduutdallshare
      Student Personal:\olympus.utdallas.eduNetID
      Staff Personal:\campus.ad.utdallas.eduutduserNetID

    • Check Reconnect at logon.
    • VPN ONLY Check Connect using different credentials, then enter:
      • CampusNetID
      • Password

Map a Network Drive with Windows XP

  1. Click on Start, then right-click My Computer and click on Map Network Drive.
  2. In the Map Network Drive window
    • Pick an available drive letter

      Typical drive letters:
      Department:G
      AllShare:P
      Personal:H

    • Enter the path to the drive

      Typical drive paths:
      Department:\campusutddeptdrivesdeptsharename
      AllShare:\campus.ad.utdallas.eduutdallshare
      Student Personal:\olympus.utdallas.eduNetID
      Staff Personal:\campus.ad.utdallas.eduutduserNetID

    • Check Reconnect at logon.
    • VPN ONLY Click Connect using a different username, then enter:
      • CampusNetID
      • Password

Map a Network Drive on Mac OSX

  1. Open a new Finder window, then type Command+K. This will open the Connect to Server panel.
  2. Enter the Server Address and click Connect.

    Typical Server Addresses:
    Department:smb://campus.ad.utdallas.edu/deptsharename$
    Student Personal:smb://olympus.utdallas.edu/NetID
    Staff Personal:smb://campus.ad.utdallas.edu/users$/NetID

  3. When the login panel appears, click on Registered User, then enter your NetID and Password.
